Medals let a space recognize a member whose contribution deserves to remain part of their story. They appear with the member’s profile, carry the context of the space that issued them, and open as certificates that explain what was recognized.
Medals are rare lasting recognition. They are not purchased, collected as a spendable balance, or used as ordinary reactions. A space grants them thoughtfully when a contribution, skill, or positive impact deserves a durable acknowledgement.
Recognition With Space Meaning
Every medal belongs to the space that issued it. That context matters: the same member may contribute in several communities, and each space can recognize a different part of their work. When you open a profile from a space, the earned-medal showcase focuses on recognition from that space rather than mixing every community into one public collection.
Awards and Medals serve different moments:
Choose an Award when you want to appreciate a particular item or moment. Choose a Medal when a member’s contribution deserves an enduring, space-backed record.
What Appears On A Profile
A signed-in visitor can find Earned medals below the member’s profile details when the current space has recognized that member. The compact showcase displays up to six medal types, making recognition visible without overwhelming the member’s introduction.
The compact showcase keeps the Medal beside the member identity and identifies the space that issued it.
Each medal tile brings together the information that helps a visitor understand it:
Select a medal to open its certificate. If the collection is larger than the profile preview, View all opens the complete space-scoped gallery available from that profile.
The certificate preserves who was recognized, which space issued the Medal, its subject and date, and the saved recognition text when available.
The showcase is intentionally about the current space. Opening the same person’s profile from another space can produce a different collection, while opening a profile outside a specific space uses Visual Space as the recognition context. A missing showcase does not mean the member has never received a medal elsewhere.
Giving Recognition Thoughtfully
When you view another member’s profile while signed in, the medal action opens a picker that finds the joined spaces where you are allowed to give Medals. Space owners can use the allowance, and other members need the Give medals permission. If more than one eligible space is available, you choose which space will stand behind the recognition; the current space is preferred when possible.
The issuing-space choice affects both meaning and availability. Each space shares five Medals per UTC month among its owner and everyone with permission to give them. This is one allowance for the whole space, not five Medals for each authorized person. The picker shows the remaining balance for every eligible space, and an exhausted space stays visible but cannot be selected until the allowance renews in the next UTC month.
Giving a Medal includes a deliberate review:
The certificate preview gives the giver a final checkpoint before the record is saved. For the complete action sequence and success checks, follow View and give profile medals.
A Durable Certificate
A successfully given Medal becomes part of the recipient’s recognition history and the giver’s gifted history. There is no current edit, revoke, refund, transfer, or personal removal action. Check the issuing space, Medal, recipient, and message carefully before confirming.
The giver sees confirmation after the Medal is accepted and the space allowance is reduced. The recipient’s open profile or account view does not update live for this action, so they may need to reload the profile or return to My medals before the new recognition appears.
Durability makes the certificate more than decoration. Its saved message and date explain why the recognition was meaningful when someone returns to it later; Medal certificates preserve that history.
Profile Showcase And My Medals
The profile showcase and My medals answer different questions. A profile asks, “How has this space recognized this member?” My medals asks, “What recognition have I received or given across all my spaces?”
Use the profile showcase to explore the newest certificate for each Medal type earned in the current space. If the same type was given more than once there, the profile represents that type with its most recent certificate instead of repeating identical artwork throughout the showcase.
Use My medals for your complete personal history. Its Received and Gifted tabs keep every Medal event across spaces, including repeated Medal types. Each entry identifies the Medal, the other member, the source-space reference, the saved reason, and the date. The available total at the top adds the remaining shared allowances from all joined spaces where you can give Medals; it is not a personal stockpile reserved for you.
You can open My medals through Account Settings or the Medals entry in your account panel when it is available.
Common Questions
Who can give a Medal?
A signed-in space owner or a member with the Give medals permission can give from that space while its shared monthly allowance has Medals remaining.
Why can’t I select a space in the picker?
You may not have permission to give Medals there, or the space may have used all five Medals for the current UTC month. Spaces with no remaining allowance are shown but disabled.
Can I give myself a Medal?
No medal action is offered on your own profile. Profile recognition is designed for acknowledging another member.
Why do I see different Medals for the same person in different spaces?
Profile recognition follows the current space context. Each space presents the Medals it issued instead of combining the member’s cross-space history.
Why does a Medal type appear only once on the profile?
The showcase presents one certificate per Medal type for the current space. When that type has been granted repeatedly, the newest certificate represents it there. The recipient’s My medals history retains every event.
Can a Medal or its message be changed later?
No. Current Medal records have no edit, revoke, refund, or transfer action, so review the certificate carefully before confirming.
When will a newly received Medal appear?
The giver receives immediate confirmation. The recipient may need to reload the profile or revisit My medals to load the new recognition.
Can signed-out visitors see the earned-medal showcase?
The current profile enrichment is for signed-in viewers. The public identity and published-post portions of a profile remain usable without the Medal collection.
