Use this guide to understand the Medal recognition on another member's profile, inspect a saved certificate, and give a Medal when their contribution deserves a lasting record. **Awards and Medals mark different moments.** Awards are quick item-level appreciation. Medals are rare lasting recognition of a person, backed by an issuing space and preserved in a certificate. For the wider recognition model, read [Profile Recognition](../profile-recognition.md).

Read a member's Medal certificate, then give recognition through an eligible space when their contribution deserves a lasting record. Medals recognize a person; Awards are quick appreciation for an item or moment.

Before Giving A Medal

Sign in and open another member's profile. You need a joined space where you are the owner or have Give medals permission. That space must also have allowance remaining.

Each space shares five Medals per UTC month across everyone authorized to give them. This is not a personal balance, and Medals cannot be purchased.

Read The Existing Recognition

•
Find Earned medals - Look beside the main profile content on a wide screen, or within the page on a narrow screen. The showcase follows the current space context.

Scan the tiles - The profile displays up to six Medal types with their issuing space and earned date.


A public profile brings the person’s introduction and recognition together.

•
Open a certificate - Select a Medal to read the recipient, subject, space, date, and recognition message. Older records may say Recognition reason unavailable.


The certificate preserves the recipient, issuing space, Medal subject, date, and available recognition text.

Explore View all - Open the complete collection available for that profile's space context when you want more than the compact showcase.

A missing showcase does not mean the member has never received a Medal. Check that you are signed in and reached the profile from the intended space. Repeated Medal types are represented by their newest certificate here; the full personal history remains in My medals.

Choose What The Space Will Recognize

Open Give Medal - Use the Medal action on the other member's profile. Check the recipient before continuing.

Choose the issuing space - Select the community whose work or shared experience gives the recognition meaning. The picker prefers the current space when it is eligible.
•
Check eligibility and allowance - Read the space age, both completed-period activity counts, and Monthly medals remaining. You can select an ineligible or exhausted space to inspect these details, but cannot choose a Medal or open its preview until it can issue. Other authorized members share the allowance.

Select the Medal - Choose its subject, then select Preview medal when available.

The issuing space becomes part of the saved certificate. Choose it for the contribution being recognized, not simply because it has allowance left.

Review Before Making It Lasting

There is no current edit, revoke, refund, transfer, or personal removal action for a given Medal. The certificate preview is the time to correct your decision.

Write the reason - Explain the contribution in Write why you are giving this medal. The message is required and allows up to 280 characters.

Check the complete certificate - Read the recipient, issuing space, Medal subject, date, giver, and message together. If the person or context is wrong, cancel and start from the correct profile.

Choose Give medal - Submit only when the certificate expresses the recognition you intend. Wait while it says Giving medal….

Confirm And Revisit

A successful submission opens Medal given and reduces the issuing space's allowance. Check the named Medal, recipient, space, and giver, then choose Done.

If saving fails, the success view does not appear. Read the problem, recheck the shared allowance, and retry only after confirming that the details are still right. A Message is missing warning means the recognition reason needs attention.

To revisit the record, open Account Settings and choose My medals:

Received keeps Medals given to you, including repeated types and their reasons.
•
Gifted keeps Medals you gave, with recipient and space context.
•
Medals available combines the remaining allowances of joined spaces where you can give recognition. It is not reserved for you.

The recipient may need to reload their profile or reopen My medals before a new Medal appears. For the difference between a public showcase and complete account history, read Profile Recognition.

When The Picker Cannot Continue

If no source spaces appear, you need ownership or Give medals permission in a joined space. A source must also meet the age and sustained-activity requirements. If it has used its monthly allowance, wait for the next UTC month. When the recipient cannot be loaded, close the picker and return to their profile before trying again.
