Meeting controls keep the essentials close while you are speaking, presenting, or watching someone else. The main call bar handles immediate actions; nearby selectors help you change equipment or choose what to share without leaving the meeting stage. These controls serve different purposes. **Muting changes whether others hear you**, turning off the camera removes your video, stopping a screen share removes only the content you were presenting, and hanging up leaves the meeting altogether.

These controls serve different purposes. Muting changes whether others hear you, turning off the camera removes your video, stopping a screen share removes only the content you were presenting, and hanging up leaves the meeting altogether.

The Controls That Stay Within Reach

The core controls remain available on the full meeting stage. Essential microphone, camera, screen-share, and hang-up controls also remain available when you return to the workspace with picture-in-picture.

Microphone mutes or unmutes your audio. A muted state is visually distinct so you can check it before speaking.
Camera turns your video feed on or off without affecting your microphone or the rest of the call.
Screen share starts a presentation or stops your current share. Sharing does not replace your camera; the shared content becomes its own selectable meeting feed.
Connection shows whether the call is healthy, being checked, degraded, or recovering.
Hang up leaves the meeting. Closing the stage is different: it returns you to the surrounding Visual Space workspace while the call continues.

The bottom call bar keeps each media action separate, so muting, camera changes, sharing, connection checks, and hanging up do not imply the same outcome.

On desktop, More meeting options opens choices for the microphone, camera, and screen share. Smaller screens place secondary meeting actions in an options drawer so the core call controls remain prominent. For the relationship between feeds and views, see Stage and layouts.

Choose The Right Microphone, Speaker, And Camera

Visual Space can list the microphones, speaker outputs, and cameras made available by your device or platform. The selected item is marked in each selector, and choosing another item switches the meeting to it. This is useful when you connect a headset during a call, move between built-in and external cameras, or need sound from a different output.

The audio selector separates Speakers from Microphones because they affect opposite sides of the conversation. Speakers control where you hear the room; microphones control what the room hears from you. The camera selector changes only the source of your video.

When you first turn on a microphone or camera and there is a meaningful choice to make, Visual Space can open the relevant selector. If there is only one useful source, the call can use it without making you choose it again. Device lists refresh as equipment is connected or removed.

If a selector says No microphones found, No speakers found, or No cameras found, the platform has not exposed a matching device. Connect the device if it is missing, and allow microphone or camera access when your browser or operating system asks. Some platforms do not expose a choice of speaker output; in that case, use the system's sound controls. A failed media change leaves the call in a consistent state and shows an alert instead of pretending the requested source is active.

Share A Screen Or Window

Screen sharing is separate from both the camera and the meeting layout. Starting a share publishes a new feed that participants can select, while changing to stage or focus view only changes how a feed is displayed. Several participants may share at the same time, and each share remains independently selectable.

On supported desktop apps, the source selector lets you preview two kinds of content:

Screens share an entire display, including anything that appears on it.
Windows share one available application window, which is often the more focused choice.

Select a preview, then use Share source. If you are already presenting, open the screen-share selector, choose another source, and use Switch share; the new source replaces your current share. Use the active screen-share control, shown as Stop sharing screen, when you want to end the share without leaving the call.

On the web and on platforms without the desktop source selector, the system or browser opens its own sharing picker. The available choices and permission wording therefore depend on that platform. If the desktop selector says Nothing available to share, open the screen or window you need and return to the selector. For a task-focused walkthrough, see Share your screen and choose a view.

Understand Connection Quality

The connection indicator gives you a quick signal without requiring you to diagnose the network yourself. Depending on the current state, it can show Checking connection, Excellent connection, Good connection, Weak connection, Poor connection, Connection lost, or Meeting disconnected. When a measurement is available, the indicator also shows the recent ping in milliseconds.

Quality labels describe the connection between your device and the meeting. A weak or poor label does not change your microphone, camera, or selected layout, but it can explain delayed audio, frozen video, or an interrupted share. If the indicator is still checking, wait for a measurement before treating it as a failure.

A reconnecting call is still trying to recover. The stage shows Connection lost with guidance that Visual Space is attempting to reconnect. Keep the meeting open while this message is present. When the connection returns, the room resumes; if recovery takes too long, the failed meeting closes instead of leaving you on an empty stage that appears connected.

After a failed meeting closes, check the device's internet connection before joining again. If meeting information itself could not refresh, the relevant activity or conversation can show a warning marker until a later refresh or join succeeds.

After You Hang Up

Visual Space may show How did it go? after you leave. You can send a one-to-five-star rating immediately, choose More details, or dismiss the prompt. Sending requires a star rating; the detailed form keeps any rating you already selected.

More details can identify Audio, Video, Screen share, Reconnect, Echo / noise, Could not hear, or Other issues. The comment is optional and accepts up to 280 characters. You can skip the detailed form, and a submission error keeps it open so you can retry or close it. This is brief call-quality feedback, not a message or shared note for meeting participants.

Common Questions

Does muting stop my camera or screen share?

No. Microphone, camera, and screen sharing are independent. Change or stop each one with its own control.

What is the difference between closing the stage and hanging up?

Closing the stage keeps you connected and returns you to the workspace, often with picture-in-picture controls. Hanging up ends your participation in the meeting. See Keep working during a meeting for the continuity options.

Why can I not choose a speaker?

Your platform may expose no separate speaker outputs even when audio playback works. Choose the output in your device's system settings when the meeting selector cannot offer one.

Can I replace a share without stopping first?

Yes on the supported desktop source selector: choose another screen or window and use Switch share. Other platforms use their own picker, so the exact replacement flow can differ.

What should I do when the call says it is reconnecting?

Keep the meeting open while Visual Space attempts recovery and check your internet connection. If recovery times out, the meeting view closes; reconnect to the network, then join the room again.

Is feedback required after every meeting?

No. You can dismiss the quick prompt or skip the detailed form. A score is required only when you choose to send feedback.
