Notification preferences let you choose which updates enter your Notification Center. They belong to your account: changing them does not change what other space members receive.
Choose Your Account-Wide Baseline
Open Account Settings > Notifications, or choose Notification preferences from the notification panel menu. Global exceptions lists the notification families with descriptions and switches.
The choices include post and Chat Awards, comments, reactions, new posts and space areas, role assignments, staff replies, Originals workflow updates, and notices from Visual Space. One Reactions choice covers reactions to posts, articles, and Chat messages.
New post is off by default. Enable it if you want notices about newly published feed posts. An existing saved choice stays in effect, including a previously enabled New post setting. You can leave new-post notices off while keeping responses to your own work enabled.
A global switch turned off mutes that family everywhere. Turning it on permits supported future notices, subject to any applicable area mute. Switches save as you change them; there is no separate Save action. If saving fails, the previous value returns and an error explains that the change was not stored.
Global exceptions set the account-wide baseline; area exceptions can mute specific places.
Mute a Particular Area
Use Space area exceptions when the global choice is right for most places but one area needs less attention. The tree shows joined spaces, subspaces, and activities. The space created with your account is labeled Personal space.
Select the exact area you want to adjust. Desktop shows its settings beside the tree; mobile opens them beneath the selected row.
The relationship between global choices and area exceptions is deliberately precise:
A space mute does not automatically flow into every subspace and activity. Each exact area uses the global choice unless it has its own mute. Choose the area where the update belongs, rather than assuming a parent row controls the whole branch.
Account-wide notices such as Terms updates, Visual Space updates, promotions, and staff replies use their global choice. Area exceptions do not narrow those notices to one place.
Find Existing Exceptions
Desktop branches show labels such as 3 overrides to help you locate saved differences. A space branch counts its own exceptions and those within its visible subspaces and activities; a selected area's count describes that area itself. These are preference counts, not unread totals.
Saved exceptions remain visible even when an original area is missing from your current joined-space view. This lets you review and remove the mute instead of losing it silently. If no joined areas or saved exceptions are available, the page shows No spaces available.
Keep Delivery Choices Separate
These settings affect future notices, leaving existing entries and their read state intact. They do not clear Chat or Direct Message indicators, including mention and reply attention dots.
Product updates and promotions controls future promotional notices in the center. Promotional email has a separate consent setting in Preferences. Turning the center choice on does not opt you into email, and turning it off does not hide feed banners. Closing a banner also does not delete a notice already in the center.
Some listed families do not currently send notices. In particular, enabling Meeting Reminder does not schedule a reminder. These settings also do not provide device push, sounds, or quiet hours.
Common Questions
Can an area switch override a global mute?
No. Turn the global family on first, then mute only the areas you want quieter.
Will enabling a family bring back updates I missed while it was off?
Preferences allow supported future notices; enabling a family does not create an inbox history for earlier events.
How do I undo one area exception?
With the global family on, select the same area and turn its switch on. The saved mute is removed, and its override count decreases.
Which settings page should I use?
Use Account Settings > Notifications for saved personal choices. The older notification-mode dialog in a space menu does not save these account preferences.
Follow Manage Notification Preferences to set a baseline, make one exception, and verify that it remains saved.
