Use Global Search when you remember a name, phrase, or topic but not which space or content type owns it. This walkthrough helps you search broadly, narrow only when the results give you a reason, open the best match, and return to the same search session.

Use this guide when you remember a name or phrase but not which community or app contains it. You will search broadly, compare the context of the matches, and open the right item without losing your place.

Start With A Broad Query

•
Open Search - Sign in and open Search. If the query field contains a space bubble, clear that bubble to search beyond the current community.
•
Enter a distinctive phrase - Try a short phrase such as quarterly plan. Results update after you pause typing. Press Enter if you want to submit immediately.
•
Check the category - Once results appear, choose All from the category dropdown for a mixed search. The apps-menu Search entry may have started with Spaces selected.
•
Use broad defaults - Choose Best match and All time unless you already know that another order or period fits the item.

The global query field has no space bubble. You should see settled results, or a clear No results message, before deciding what to change next.

Begin with All to discover which category contains the match you need.

Follow The Strongest Lead

Scan titles together with their context. Two articles can have similar names but different authors or communities. An event date, goal status, profile description, or message sender may be the clue that tells you which match is right.

•
Choose one category when useful - Select Articles, Goals, Events, Docs, Messages, People, or Spaces to focus the query. This replaces the current category; return to All when the clue could belong to several kinds of content.
•
Change the order for a reason - Try Newest for a recent update or Popular for established content. Keep All time until you have a useful date clue.
•
Check beyond the first rows - Scroll for additional matches or select Show more when offered. On wide screens, Results shown summarizes the categories already loaded.

The controls remain available as you scroll, so you can refine the query without returning to the first row.

Open And Verify The Match

•
Open a promising result - Search takes you to its article, event, goal, Documents location, conversation, profile, or space.
•
Confirm the full context - Read the title and owner details at the destination. For a message, check the surrounding conversation; for an event, check its complete schedule before making plans.
•
Return if needed - Go back to the same search to compare another result. Your current app session retains the query, filters, and loaded pages, and marks opened rows as seen.

Opening a result does not join a community, submit event attendance, or change sharing permissions. Those actions belong to the destination.

If You Have Not Found It Yet

No results appeared. Shorten the phrase, choose All and All time, and make sure there is no space bubble. Try a distinctive title word instead of a complete sentence.

Private work seems to be missing. Try All or search inside the owning space, then check the location directly if you know it. Your current access still governs what can appear.

Search failed. Wait a moment and submit the query again. If only an additional page failed, keep the results already loaded and retry Show more.

The item changed recently. Rerun the query after a moment. Returning to an earlier list does not guarantee that its contents have refreshed.

Once you find the right location, continue there. For a narrower approach next time, use Search Within A Space or Find Documents And Media.
