Space administration is where an owner or authorized manager changes the shared Space itself. These settings shape what members see, how the Space is governed, and how much content it can hold. They are separate from personal Preferences, which affect only one person's experience.

Space administration is where an owner or authorized manager changes the shared Space itself. These settings shape what members see, how the Space is governed, and how much content it can hold. They are separate from personal Preferences, which affect only one person's experience.

Manage The Shared Space

Space Settings brings several kinds of management into one family. The entries you see depend on your role, permissions, the Space's privacy, and the features available to it.

Identity and orientation - Keep the title, description, avatar, banner, linked content, and goal references clear and current.
Access and participation - Work with roles, invitations, members, and private membership where your authority allows it.
Community guidance - Maintain rules, review reports, and provide the local context members need to participate well.
Capacity and reuse - Understand storage, assigned Boosts, upload limits, and the Space's content license.

Changing shared settings can affect every member, so Visual Space separates this work from personal notification, display, and account choices. A manager can adjust the Space without changing anyone's Preferences.

Shape The Space Identity

The main space-details entry in Space Settings is currently labeled Space Article. It connects the Space's public identity with its linked article, the durable place for fuller onboarding information. Use it to keep the short presentation and the deeper explanation aligned.

The title and description save after a brief pause while you edit. The page shows whether a change is pending, saved, or failed, and a failed recent change can be retried. Avatar and banner controls update the imagery used with the Space across its public surfaces.

Changing the title does not change the published handle. The handle is the stable path people share and use to return to the Space. Once the Space is published, treat that handle as permanent even when the community changes its display name, description, or artwork.

For advice on how the root Space relates to Subspaces and Activities, see Space Areas. Each nested area has its own scope. Its settings affect that Subspace or Activity rather than silently changing the whole Space, and the available entries may differ from the root Space settings.

Give Goals A Recognizable Key

A Space can have an optional short key so goals appear with labels such as VS-42. A valid key contains 2–8 uppercase letters or digits, starts with a letter, and contains no spaces or punctuation. In compact form, it follows [A-Z][A-Z0-9]{1,7}.

The key may be confirmed, changed, or cleared. Clearing it removes the short KEY-number form but does not remove goals or prevent members from sharing them. More importantly, changing the key changes labels, not goal identity. Existing selected references continue to point to the intended goals while displaying their current labels.

Choose something members will recognize without assuming it must be unique across all of Visual Space. Goal References explains keyless labels, duplicate keys, Chat sharing, and what readers see after a label changes.

Read Capacity Before Adding Content

The Space Storage section shows used and total capacity together with the percentage currently consumed. This helps managers distinguish two different constraints:

Available storage is the remaining room for content counted against the Space's capacity.
Regular upload limits are the maximum sizes shown for an individual ordinary upload and an individual video upload.

A Space can have free capacity and still reject a file that exceeds its per-file limit. It can also accept the file size in principle but lack enough available storage to keep it. Check both values when an upload cannot proceed.

Space Storage separates the room remaining in the Space from the maximum size allowed for each regular or video upload.

Assigned Space Boosters appear as capacity context, including the member who supplied each Boost and the storage or file-size effect it provides. This page is for understanding the Space's current limits; assigning, moving, or removing a user-owned Boost belongs to subscription management. See Space Boosts for the available capacity types and the complete assignment workflow.

Choose How Space Content May Be Reused

The Space owner can select a content license from the Space summary. The selected license tells readers which reuse conditions apply across the Space and remains visible with its rule indicators.

The choices range from a public-domain dedication through Creative Commons combinations to all rights reserved. Before selecting one, consider the consequences represented by the short rule labels:

BY requires attribution.
SA requires adaptations to use the same license terms.
NC limits reuse to noncommercial purposes.
ND permits redistribution only without adaptations.
CC0 dedicates the work to the public domain, while C keeps all rights reserved.

These conditions are meaningful publishing decisions, not decorative tags. The license catalogue explains the full combinations before the owner confirms a choice. Other readers can open the license reference from the current license card to understand what the selected rules permit.

Use The Right Administration Area

Space Settings acts as a doorway to focused management pages rather than putting every control on one screen.

Roles - Define delegated authority and decide who may perform particular actions. Start with Roles and Permissions.
Invites, Members, and Private members - Bring people into the Space, review participation, and manage entry to a private Space when the relevant controls are available. See Members and Invites.
Rules - Set local expectations and help members understand how the community handles participation. Community Guidance explains the relationship between rules, useful links, and broader platform guidance.
Reports - Authorized moderators can review reported content and choose an appropriate response. Follow Report Review for that workflow.
Emoji - Owners and permitted Chat managers can maintain the Space's custom emoji collection. See Custom Emoji.

The menu is permission-aware. Not seeing an entry does not mean the underlying subject is unimportant; it usually means that your current authority, the Space's privacy, or the available feature set does not expose that management surface.

Make High-Impact Decisions Carefully

Privacy is chosen as part of creating and publishing a Space. A published Space cannot be switched between public and private from Space Settings. Private membership controls entry, while roles and permissions control what an admitted member may do. Space Privacy develops that distinction and its effect on nested areas.

Ownership and deletion deserve an extra pause because they are not routine presentation changes:

Transfer ownership when another existing member should become the responsible owner. The previous owner cannot simply reclaim ownership afterward; the new owner would need to transfer it back. Use Transfer Space Ownership for the checks and confirmation flow.
Delete the Space only when the shared home should no longer be available. The destructive confirmation requires the Space name, removes its active routes and joined-space shortcuts, and keeps its published handle unavailable for reuse. Renaming, transferring ownership, or reorganizing areas is safer when one of those actions solves the real need.

Subspace and Activity administration is narrower than root Space administration. Status and privacy information may be visible there, but do not assume that every root-level action exists for a child area or that an admin-menu entry guarantees a completed child-area deletion workflow.

Common Questions

Why did changing the Space title leave the URL unchanged?

The published handle is the Space's stable path identity. Title edits update the visible name and linked presentation without rewriting that shared path.

Where do I change my own notifications or display choices?

Use personal Preferences. Space Settings changes the shared Space and is available only for actions your role permits.

Can I turn a published public Space into a private one?

No. Privacy is a creation and publication decision, not an editable post-publication setting.

Why can I see storage and Boosts but not assign a Boost here?

Space administration shows the capacity currently affecting the Space. User-owned Boost assignment belongs to subscription management, where the Boost owner can assign, move, or unassign it.

Will changing the goal key break old references?

No. The visible label updates, while references already attached to a goal continue to follow that goal's identity.

Who can change the Space license?

The current license is visible to readers, but selecting or replacing it is an owner action because it changes the stated reuse terms for Space content.

What should I do if another person should manage everything?

Delegated permissions may be enough when someone needs specific management abilities. Transfer ownership only when that person should become the Space owner and accept the full handoff.
