Give a Medal when another member has made a meaningful contribution that deserves lasting recognition from a space. This walkthrough takes you from choosing the recipient and issuing space to verifying that the Medal was accepted.

Give a Medal when another member has made a meaningful contribution that deserves lasting recognition from a space. This walkthrough takes you from choosing the recipient and issuing space to verifying that the Medal was accepted.

Before You Start

Medals are not purchasable and do not come from personal inventory. Each eligible space has one shared allowance of five Medals per UTC month, used by its owner and all members granted Give medals permission.

You are ready to give a Medal when:

Check your access - You own at least one joined space or have Give medals permission in one.
•
Check the space - It must be at least 90 days old, with 25 qualifying active members in each of the two completed 30-day periods. Permission alone does not make a space eligible.
•
Check the allowance - The space must still have a Medal available for the current UTC month.
•
Choose another member - The current interface does not offer the action for your own account.

Because the allowance is shared, another authorized giver can use an available Medal while you are preparing the certificate. You can learn more about this limit in Medals.

Choose The Recipient And Source Space

Open the member action - Open another member's menu and choose Give medal. You can also start from the Medal action on that member's profile.

Verify the recipient - At the top of the picker, confirm that the name beside Give medal to is the person you intend to recognize.
•
Review the source space - Check the space shown after from and its Monthly medals remaining count. The current space is preferred when you are authorized there and it has Medals available.
•
Inspect a different space if needed - Open the source-space picker and choose an authorized joined space. Ineligible or exhausted spaces remain selectable so you can read their status, but you cannot choose a Medal or open its preview there.

Read the requirements - Check the age, both active-member counts, and the last UTC date included. If the space does not qualify, read when a space can issue Medals before continuing.

Choose the community whose recognition you want the certificate to carry. Its identity becomes part of the lasting Medal.


The picker exposes the recipient, issuing space, shared allowance, and category catalog before any certificate is prepared.

Select And Preview The Medal

Choose a category - Select the best match from the 21 Medal categories. The chosen card is highlighted.

Open the preview - Select Preview medal. This does not give the Medal or use the space's allowance.
•
Write the reason - Enter a specific explanation of what the member contributed and why it mattered. The reason is required, cannot be only spaces, and may contain up to 280 characters.

The category describes the broad contribution. Use the reason to make it specific: Your accessible onboarding guide helped new members contribute independently. A concrete result says more than repeating the Medal’s category.

Review And Give The Certificate

Before confirming, read the certificate as the recipient will see it. Check the recipient, Medal category, source space, giver, date, and reason. A confirmed Medal cannot currently be edited, transferred, revoked, or taken back.

Correct anything that is wrong - If the reason needs work, edit it directly on the certificate. If the recipient, Medal, or source space is wrong, cancel and restart the giving flow with the right choices.

Give the Medal - Select Give medal once every certificate detail is correct. Visual Space temporarily changes the action to Giving medal… while it confirms the recognition.
•
Verify success - The Medal has been given only when a confirmation titled Medal given appears. Check that it names the intended Medal, recipient, source space, and giver.
•
Finish the flow - Select Done to close the confirmation.

The confirmed Medal now belongs to the recipient's lasting recognition history, and the source space has one fewer Medal available for the current UTC month.

If Confirmation Fails

A failed attempt does not show Medal given. The certificate stays open, keeps your reason, and makes its actions available again so you can review the message or retry.

The allowance shown earlier may have changed because every authorized giver shares it. The space’s eligibility is also checked when you confirm. If it no longer qualifies, read the warning and reopen the picker to inspect its current requirements.

If its allowance is exhausted, choose another appropriate eligible space or wait for the next UTC month. Waiting for a new month replenishes the allowance only; the space must still meet the issuing requirements.
