Reporting helps the people responsible for a space understand a possible rule violation. It is useful when there is a specific concern to assess, such as harassment, privacy violations, spam, or content that conflicts with the community's stated purpose.
A difference of opinion is not itself a rule violation. Focus your report on the content and the rule you believe applies.
Start From The Content
Open the post or loaded article's menu and choose Report. The post menu offers reporting to readers who are not maintainers of that space; maintainers have moderation controls instead. A loaded article offers reporting where its menu makes the action available.
The loaded article menu exposes Report before any rule, note, or submission screen is opened.
The form uses the content's space for its local rule option. Check that space name before continuing, especially when you found the post in a feed that brings several communities together.
Posts support the complete submission and in-space review journey. Article submission is available, but do not assume every article case has the same visible follow-up. Messages, comments, raw files, and profile media are outside the journey described here.
Pick The Closest Rule
You must select one rule before you can submit. The form shows its name and description so you can check whether it matches your concern.
A report does not require you to predict the reviewer's decision. Choose the closest applicable rule and explain any important distinction in your note.
Make The Note Useful
User Note (optional) gives the reviewer information the selected rule cannot convey by itself. For example: The phone number in the second paragraph belongs to another member. That is more useful than a broad accusation about the author.
Keep the note brief and factual. Identify the relevant passage or surrounding context, avoid guessing motives, and leave out unrelated personal information. If the issue is already clear, submit without a note.
Check The Result
The form closes while the submission is sent. Wait for Report submitted before treating the action as successful. If an error appears, reopen the form and check the rule and note before trying again; the closed form does not offer an in-place retry.
The content may remain visible after submission. Reporting starts a review and does not automatically remove content, restrict its author, or choose an outcome.
Ordinary readers do not see a public report marker. Another reader can still submit an independent concern about the same item. Reports should be written for authorized reviewers rather than used as public replies.
Common Questions
Why is Report unavailable?
The action depends on the content surface and your role. In particular, space maintainers see moderation choices in the post menu. Not every content type has this reporting flow.
Must I add a note?
No. Selecting a rule is required; the note is optional.
Does the local-rule option show all the space's rules?
No. Read the space's rules through the link, choose the general local-rule option, and identify the relevant expectation in your note when helpful.
Should I submit again because the post is still visible?
Visibility alone does not mean submission failed. Check for the success confirmation; an accepted report may still be waiting for review.
For the connected task, follow Report A Post Or Article. Reports explains what happens on the review side.
