Use this guide to set a calm notification baseline for your account, then make one joined space, subspace, or activity behave differently. You will finish with a global choice that applies across Visual Space and, when useful, one clearly visible area exception.

Before You Begin

You must be signed in to change these personal settings. You also need to have joined a space before you can create an exception for one of its areas.

Choose the notification family you want to tune and decide on the behavior that should apply most often. That common choice belongs under All spaces; the less common choice belongs on the specific space area.

Keep in mind that a switch controls whether a supported future update may enter your notification center. It does not guarantee that Visual Space currently sends that kind of update. For example, Meeting Reminder can appear as a choice even though meeting reminders do not currently arrive in the center.

Set Your Global Choices

Open Account Settings - Open your account settings while signed in.

•

Choose Notifications - Select Notifications in the settings navigation. The page opens with the title Notification preferences.

•

Review All spaces - Read the family name and description before changing its switch. This section provides the default for every space, subspace, and activity that does not have its own exception.

•

Choose the common behavior - Turn each relevant family on or off according to what you want in most places. For example, you might allow New post, New comments, and Post reactions globally while turning off a family you seldom need.

•

Let the change save - Each switch is saved as soon as you change it. There is no separate Save button.

Changing a global family affects every area that still inherits from All spaces. It does not replace an explicit area exception you created earlier.

Add an Exception for One Area

Scroll to Space area exceptions. The tree begins with joined spaces and can reveal subspaces and activities beneath them, letting you place the exception at the exact scope where it belongs.

Find the joined space - Locate the space whose behavior should differ from your global choice. Use the arrow beside it to expand its subspaces, or select the space itself if the exception should apply to that exact space scope.

Expand the path - If you need a narrower exception, expand the relevant subspace to reveal its activities. A row without children has no further level to open.

•

Choose the scope - Select the space, subspace, or activity you want to tune. An exception at one scope does not automatically become the setting for its children; each scope follows All spaces until it has its own override.

•

Find the family - Locate the same notification family you reviewed under All spaces. The switch initially shows the inherited global value when that area has no saved exception.

•

Create the override - Change the area's switch to the opposite of its current global value. Visual Space saves that difference as an explicit exception for the selected scope.

On a desktop-sized screen, the selected settings appear beside the area tree. On mobile, the settings appear inline beneath the selected area row, so you can make the change without leaving the tree.

Desktop branches with saved exceptions display counts such as 2 overrides. A space count includes exceptions on that space and within its visible subspaces and activities; a subspace count also includes exceptions in its activities. The count is a map of saved preference differences, not a notification or unread total.

The selected activity keeps its place in the hierarchy while the visible family values follow the current global default.

Verify the New Behavior

The switch changes immediately while Visual Space saves the preference. After the update completes, the area switch should remain different from the matching switch under All spaces, and the desktop override count should increase.

For a stronger check, leave Notifications, reopen it from Account Settings, and return to the same area. The different value should still be selected. The preference affects supported notifications created after the change; it does not remove rows already in your notification center.

Return an Area to the Global Default

An exception is useful only while that area genuinely needs different treatment. To restore inheritance:

•

Check the global value - Under All spaces, note whether the family is currently on or off.

•

Return to the area - In Space area exceptions, expand the same path and select the space, subspace, or activity that owns the exception.

•

Match All spaces - Change the area switch back to the current global value. Matching the global choice removes the explicit override instead of saving a duplicate area setting.

•

Confirm the result - On desktop, the relevant override count decreases or disappears. Future changes to that global family now flow to the area again.

Solve Common Problems

Why does Space area exceptions say No spaces available.?

The page has no joined spaces or saved fallback exceptions to show. Join the space you need, make sure your joined-space information has loaded, then return to Account Settings > Notifications. You can still manage the global choices under All spaces.

Why is an older saved area still visible?

Visual Space keeps explicit exceptions visible even when the original space or area is missing from your current joined-space view. This protects a saved choice from disappearing silently. Select the visible fallback area, compare its family switch with All spaces, and match the global value if you want to remove the old override.

Why did my switch return to its previous value?

The page applies your choice immediately, but restores the previous value when it cannot save the update. Look for feedback such as Failed to update notification setting, check your connection, and try again. A reverted switch means the new choice was not stored.

Why did turning a family on not produce a notification?

The preference only allows supported future updates in that family. A notification still depends on an active source, a relevant event, and your access to its destination.
