Import saves time when you already have a prepared set of definitions or translations. Lexi needs explicit prompt-and-answer records; it does not turn ordinary prose or a vocabulary table into translated practice material automatically.
Choose The Destination First
Open the collection you author before importing shared material. For personal material, open Personal library from the Lexi tools panel instead. These destinations remain separate, even when their entries contain the same text.
Only the collection author can import into a shared collection. Readers can practice the material but cannot replace it with their own import.
Prepare One Record Per Line
Choose Import definitions and open Format help for the format shown in the app. Files may use .md, .txt, .json, or .jsonl, but every entry must still be one JSON object on its own line. Do not wrap the entries in an array or spread one object over several lines. Markdown headings and code fences may surround the records.
This small example contains general knowledge, a word, and a sentence:
Here, target is the prompt and translation is its answer, including for general definitions. kind must be definition, word, or sentence. Language entries use targetLanguage for the prompt language and sourceLanguage for the answer language; omitted language codes default to German and English.
Keep prompts and answers on a single line. Both are required for imports. Category and flag are optional; use short, single-line names. An entry can have only one flag.
Import And Check The Result
If a larger import stops partway through, review the result and retry the prepared material after fixing the reported issue. Matching records are recognized on reimport rather than blindly added again.
Update Material Without Starting Over
Matching reimports preserve learning progress. Matching uses the entry kind, language pair, prompt, and answer, with ordinary case and spacing differences normalized. Category, flag, and examples do not make an otherwise identical pair a new entry.
A supplied category can change the existing category. An omitted category or flag keeps its current value; "flag":"" clears an existing flag. Supplied examples can fill an empty example list, but do not overwrite examples already present.
Changing the prompt or answer in the import can make it a different entry. To correct an existing definition while keeping its identity and history, use Edit definition in Study. Reimport also keeps an existing exclusion; it does not automatically return excluded material to practice.
If Nothing Is Ready To Practice
Check the selected collection or personal library, the imported entry types, and your practice filters. A sentence-only set supports reconstruction challenges; Missing word also needs a usable example context. Read Practice challenges when the expected challenge is unavailable.
