Meeting rooms keep a call attached to the activity or direct-message conversation where it belongs. Activity meetings and direct-message calls use the same meeting experience for voice, video, screen sharing, reactions, raised hands, invitations, and feedback, but the room's scope still determines who can see it, where it returns, and which collaboration controls are available.

A meeting room belongs to one activity or one direct-message conversation. Its presence entry helps you see who is talking before you join, and its access follows that conversation's audience.

One Room For Each Conversation

Each activity can have one active meeting at a time. The first participant starts it; later participants join the same room. Several activities in one space can therefore host calls in parallel. A direct-message conversation also has one private room, separate from any activity call involving the same people.

An archived activity cannot start a new meeting. A draft activity does not offer the normal meeting action beside its message composer.

Read Activity Presence

Look beneath an activity for its Voice entry. The duration shows how long the room has been active, while participant rows show who is there.

•
Expanded panels show names and avatars, with speaking, muted microphone, camera, or screen-sharing indicators.
•
Compact panels use an avatar stack and an overflow count when everyone cannot fit.
•
A green speaker badge on a joined-space avatar signals that the space has an ongoing meeting.

The expanded Voice entry connects the activity's room identity and participant presence to the meeting stage.

The space badge is a cue to look inside. It does not grant access to a private activity. You may see a space badge without seeing the room that caused it.

Select the Voice entry to join. If you are already connected to that room, the same entry reopens its stage. Selecting a participant can open their profile.

Find A Direct-Message Call

An active call appears beneath its conversation in Messages and in the selected conversation's Participants panel. The conversation top bar offers Join meeting, or Open meeting when it is the room you already have selected.

A private call stays attached to its selected direct-message conversation while the connected stage is closed.

Direct-message calls use the same cameras, microphones, screen sharing, reactions, and raised hands as activity meetings. They do not offer meeting live apps, meeting Awards, or space-role moderation.

Who Can Enter

For an activity room, sign in with an account that belongs to the space and can access the activity. If the activity is in a private area, you also need membership in that area. A direct-message room is for the conversation's participants.

An invitation does not change access. It points an eligible person to the current room. If someone is missing from the invite picker, check the conversation or activity audience rather than assuming the picker will add them to it.

Stay Connected While Moving Around

Opening the full stage returns you to the room's activity chat or direct-message conversation. Closing the stage keeps you connected and reveals that conversation. You can then move elsewhere in Visual Space while picture-in-picture follows the call.

Closing the stage restores the owning workspace without ending the connected activity meeting.

You can join only one room at a time. Switching to an activity meeting keeps your existing call until the replacement connects. Switching to a direct-message call leaves the current room first; if the new join fails, the previous call is not restored automatically.

When Presence Needs Attention

A warning beside Voice means the latest room refresh or start/join attempt failed. Check your connection and try again. The warning clears after a successful refresh or join.

During an interruption, the stage attempts to reconnect. If Visual Space cannot confirm or recover the call, it closes the affected meeting view. Return to the owning activity or conversation after the connection recovers and join the available room again.

Common Questions

Does the room need its original starter to stay?

No. The meeting can continue while other people remain. An empty room closes after presence updates.

Why is the same person shown in two stage tiles?

Their camera or audio presence and screen share are separate feeds. The presence list still represents one participant.

Does closing the stage remove me from Voice?

No. Use Leave meeting to disconnect. See Start and join meetings for joining and leaving, or Keep working during a meeting for picture-in-picture.
