Visual Space manual, Spaces, Find Join And Reopen Spaces

This walkthrough helps you discover a public Space, inspect it before joining, place it in your personal rail, and use the rail as a reliable return point. It also explains how invitation-only Spaces enter the same navigation.

Find A Public Space

•

Open Search - Use the Search shortcut and choose the Spaces filter. Older Spaces Explorer links open this same filtered Search experience.

•

Describe the community - Search by a recognizable name or label. You can sort by Best match, Newest, or Popular and narrow the time range when the result set is broad.

•

Review the result - Use the name, description, avatar, and available counts to distinguish similar communities.

•

Open the Space - Select the result to open its About page. This is the orientation view, so you can understand the community before entering its active feeds and apps.

A private Space does not appear as an ordinary public discovery result for someone without access. Its normal entry path is an invitation.

Public discovery provides enough identity, description, and membership context to evaluate a Space before opening it.

Inspect Before Joining

Read the summary and the sections that are available. A useful About page may introduce Subspaces, upcoming Events, selected updates, contributors, or Expo work.

Before joining, ask:

Does the purpose match what you want to learn, build, discuss, or support?

•

Do the Space rules and platform guidelines make the contribution expectations clear?

•

Are there active Subspaces or Activities where your interests fit?

•

Do Space Pins or the linked area article suggest a useful next action?

Use About Pages and Community Guidance if these surfaces are unfamiliar.

Join And Place The Space In Your Rail

•

Select the join action - Join from the About header or another Space header where the action is available. You must be signed in.

•

Confirm the joined state - The header changes to reflect membership, the member count updates, and the Space appears among your joined avatars.

•

Reorder the avatar - Drag the Space to the position that suits your routine. On touch layouts, use the dedicated long-press drag interaction.

•

Let the order save - The visual order changes immediately. If it cannot be saved, Visual Space restores the previous confirmed order.

The order belongs to you. It does not rearrange the Space's Subspaces or Activities for anyone else.

The settled Joined indicator confirms membership without replaying the join or invitation workflow.

Accept A Private Invitation

•

Open your invitations - A pending-invitation counter can appear in the profile panel. Open Your invitations to review the available Spaces.

•

Accept or decline - Accept the invitation to establish access and add the Space to your joined rail. Decline when you do not want to join.

•

Handle an unavailable invitation - An expired, invalid, or already unavailable invite shows a warning instead of silently granting access.

Private membership is not a staff role. Once inside, you have the capabilities assigned to ordinary members unless the owner separately gives you a Role.

Reopen The Right Context

•

Select a joined Space - Visual Space returns to a safe, useful area associated with that Space while keeping the app you are using where possible.

•

Select the current Space again - This returns the current app to the Space-level view, which is useful when you have moved deep into an Activity.

•

Activate the Space twice - A quick second activation opens its Space-level Posts view. Draft Space avatars reopen their draft editor instead.

•

Read the indicators - An update dot signals visible activity that may need attention. A meeting badge shows an ongoing room when Meetings is available.

Return behavior deliberately avoids fragile detail pages that may no longer fit. It preserves useful area context without promising that every old article, comment, Search, or administration route will reopen exactly as it was.

Clear Updates Or Leave

Use Mark as Read from the Space menu when you have reviewed the visible activity and want to clear the Space-level update signal. This does not change your personal notification preferences.

If the Space is no longer useful:

•

Open the Space menu - Choose Leave as a non-owner.

•

Confirm the rail change - The Space is removed from your joined navigation and its member count decreases after the membership update succeeds.

A published Space owner cannot leave through this path. The owner must transfer ownership to another joined member or delete the Space. See Transfer Space Ownership before making that decision.

Common Problems

The Space does not appear in Search. It may be private, unpublished, deleted, outside the current query, or ranked beyond the loaded results. Private Spaces require access rather than public discovery.

Join is not available. Confirm that you are signed in and that the Space is public. An invitation may be required for a private Space.

The rail returned to a different screen than expected. Joined navigation keeps a safe area and the current app where practical. Detail, Search, foreign-Space, and administration routes can fall back to a normal Space destination.

I cannot leave. The current user may be the owner. Transfer ownership first, or keep the Space while its future is decided.

The update dot remains. Another visible Subspace or Activity may still contain updates. Open the Activities panel or use Mark as Read for the relevant scope.

Result

The Space is now part of your personal working set. You can recognize its activity and meeting signals, place it where it is easy to reach, return to a useful area, and leave safely when you no longer want the membership.
