Q&A turns an article into an open question that people can answer, rank, and discuss in its space context. The question keeps the familiar article and feed experience, while the Q&A discussion adds voting, rich-text answers, and short comments attached directly to the question or an answer.
Find Questions in the Q&A App
Open Apps, then choose Q&A immediately after Wiki. The app shows only Q&A posts for the current space area. It keeps the normal activity and subspace selector, feed layout, ordering, and paging behavior, so you can narrow the questions without learning a separate browser.
A Q&A feed card combines the article introduction with a compact participation preview:
Answers are ranked by score, with higher-scoring answers first. The preview is a shortcut into the conversation, not a replacement for the complete question. Open the article from its title when you want to read the full question, every answer, and the direct comments.
The Q&A app keeps the familiar feed layout while giving each question its own compact voting rail.
Questions can also appear in the ordinary feed for their destination. Use the Q&A app when you want a focused view that excludes other post types. For the wider feed model, see Posts and Feeds.
Ask Through an Article
A Q&A question is an article with Q&A participation enabled. It uses the article's destination, title, publication state, visibility, and reading page rather than creating a separate ticket or conversation object.
Start from the article creation flow and choose Q&A alongside Article and Poll, or choose Q&A from the media and type selector while editing an article draft. Q&A uses a text-backed introduction. If the draft currently uses another summary format, choosing Q&A changes the active introduction to Text.
Write the article as the question:
The draft follows the normal article save, validation, and publication flow. It remains private until published, then its feed post and article become visible under the destination's usual access rules. Authoring and Publishing explains those shared safeguards.
Answer and Vote
Open a Q&A article to find Q&A discussion beneath the question. The article above is the question itself; the Q&A area does not repeat it as a second document.
Use Your answer when you can contribute a response. Answers support formatted text, which is useful for explanations, lists, links, or structured reasoning. Select Post answer when the response is ready. You can use Answer options to edit or delete an answer you wrote; deleting it also removes its votes and direct comments.
Voting helps the most useful responses rise:
Questions and answers have separate scores. Because answers are ordered by score, a vote can change which responses appear first in the detail view and in the feed card's top three slices.
The ranked answer keeps its score, vote state, and direct follow-up together in one card.
Keep Direct Comments Attached to Their Target
The comment control beside the question opens a short comment field for the question. The same control beside an answer opens comments for that answer. These comments are direct and linear: they appear in time order under one target and do not create nested reply threads.
A direct Q&A comment must contain text and can be up to 500 characters. The counter shows the current length, and an empty or over-limit submission shows a validation message instead of saving. You can edit or delete a direct comment you wrote.
Standard article comments still exist alongside Q&A comments. Use them when the conversation should follow the article's normal section-focused topic structure. Use direct Q&A comments for a concise clarification about the question or one answer. Discussions and Reactions explains the standard article discussion model.
Each answer keeps its own comments, while the formatted composer stays separate at the end of the ranked list.
Use Quick Help for Manuals and Issues
Quick Help identifies its two destinations with the tooltips Read manual and Report issue. Read manual opens the configured help destination. Report issue opens a support prompt that asks what happened and what you expected, then starts the normal creation flow directly in Q&A mode.
An issue report created this way is a Q&A question in its configured support destination. It still follows sign-in, membership, destination, and create-post permission checks. Include screenshots only when they help explain the problem, and avoid placing secrets or private information in the question.
Report issue is different from reporting content for moderation. To flag a post or article against platform or space rules, use its content menu and follow Reports.
Access and Contribution Rules
Q&A keeps the access rules of the article and the space area that owns it. Someone may be able to read a public question without being able to participate.
If a control is missing or disabled, check that you are signed in, have joined the space, can access the selected area, and hold the relevant permission. A visible error or retry action reflects the current Q&A request; it does not remove the article question.
Common Questions
Is Q&A a separate kind of document?
No. The question is an article with Q&A participation. It keeps the article's title, text introduction, optional body, route, draft state, publication, and standard comments.
Why can I see a question but not answer it?
Reading and contributing have separate access checks. Answers and direct comments require the destination's add-comments access in addition to sign-in, membership, and area access.
Can I remove my vote?
Yes. Select the currently active upvote or downvote control again. You can also select the opposite direction to change your vote.
Why did the answer order change?
Answers are ranked by score. New votes can move an answer higher or lower, including into or out of the three answer slices shown on a feed card.
Can I reply to a direct Q&A comment?
Not as a nested thread. Direct comments form one linear list under the question or answer. Use another direct comment or the article's standard discussion when the conversation needs more structure.
Are direct Q&A comments the same as article comments?
No. Q&A comments attach directly to the question or one answer and allow up to 500 characters. Standard article comments remain available through the article's section-focused discussion system.
