Visual Space manual, Goals, Create And Develop A Goal
Use this walkthrough when an idea is ready to become visible work. You will place it in the right space area, publish it to a workflow column or the backlog, develop its article, add responsibility and a color tag where useful, then confirm that other members can recognize it on the board. Goal creation is immediate: there is no draft stage in the current board and backlog flow. A clear title is enough to create the goal, but the linked article is where you explain the result, context, and invit
Turn an agreed objective into a published goal with enough context for someone to contribute. You will choose its area and planning location, create its title, develop the article, and set responsibility where it has been accepted.
Goals publish as soon as creation succeeds. Prepare wording suitable for the area's readers; the board and backlog composers do not create private drafts.
Choose The Right Starting Point
•
Check your access - You need space-owner or goal-management access and Coordinator access. If creation is unavailable, review those requirements before continuing.
•
Open the owning area - Choose the space, subspace, or activity whose Goals board should contain the work. An activity is useful when its conversation and documents provide the context.
•
Check that the activity is active - Archived activities keep existing work readable but do not accept new goals.
•
Choose board or backlog - Use a column for current work, or the backlog for later work that is worth keeping. Clear text search before using inline creation; assignee and color filters can remain active.
Create The Goal
•
Open a composer - Select New in the Goals header to begin in the initial column, use a chosen column's add position, or use the backlog creation control.
•
Write an outcome - Enter a specific title such as Publish the newcomer guide. Keep it within 300 characters and reserve the fuller explanation for the article.
•
Submit once - Press Enter or use the create control, then wait for the result. Press Escape before submission if you want to cancel.
You can paste several titles at once: each non-empty line becomes a separate published goal, in the submitted order. Check the accepted goals before retrying after a failure; earlier lines may already have been created. Do not paste a multi-paragraph explanation into this composer.
Confirm The Space Key If Asked
The first creation may open Confirm your goal key for a space manager.
•
Review the suggestion - Keep a useful key, or enter 2β8 uppercase letters or digits beginning with a letter. The preview shows its reference form.
•
Choose no key if preferred - Clear the field to use references based on the space handle instead.
•
Continue - Select Confirm and create goal to save the choice and resume the pending creation. Closing the review cancels that creation.
Creators who cannot manage the space key are not held up by this setting.
Give Contributors The Context
Select the new card or backlog row to open its article beside the planning surface.
•
Check its identity - Confirm the reference, area, status, and reporter. The reporter introduced the goal; the assignee will be responsible for carrying it forward.
•
Explain the outcome - Describe what success looks like, why it matters, and any decisions already made. Add the links or material a contributor needs.
•
Offer a useful next action - Make the first contribution understandable, such as reviewing a draft or gathering missing examples.
•
Verify the saved result - Watch the title and article save state, then reopen the goal and confirm the content remains. Use the full article view when you need more room.
Open a goal to read its context and review its status without losing the board.
Set Responsibility And Attention
•
Choose an assignee - Select one participating person or space role when responsibility has been accepted. Otherwise, leave Unassigned.
•
Understand the access granted - The assigned person or current role members can edit, change status, move, and delete this goal. Assignment alone does not grant column management, reassignment, tag changes, or activity placement.
•
Apply a useful tag - Choose one color tag from the goal controls, or No tag when none is needed. The reporter, space owner, and goal managers can make this choice.
Check Where It Landed
Find the goal in its intended column or backlog location. New uses the configured initial column. A newly created goal may not match an active assignee or tag filter, so clear the relevant choices if it is absent.
If backlog placement failed after creation, check the initial board column before creating another copy. A successful creation is already published even when its follow-up placement could not finish. For exact ordering, check the position after reopening the workspace and drag the goal where needed.
You now have a visible objective with a useful article and a deliberate responsibility decision. Continue with Organizing goals for filters and tags, or Share a goal in Chat when the work needs discussion.
