Chat keeps everyday conversation connected to the work around it. Activity discussions use topics and summaries, while Messages provides private one-to-one and group conversations.

Activity Discussions

•
Focused topics - The Chat guide explains how conversations happen inside activity topics, keeping each discussion connected to the work it supports.
•
Useful summaries - Each topic has a connected article where contributors can preserve decisions and useful findings beyond the live conversation.
•
Topic controls - Space owners and chat managers can create and publish topics. Authors, owners, and chat managers can move them, while authors can delete their topics.
•
Area overviews - Space and subspace chat show relevant topic updates without mixing messages from several activities into one feed.
•
Easy catch-up - Conversations open at the latest messages, with day dividers, unread markers, and older history available by scrolling upward.
•
Direct navigation - Links from search can open and highlight a specific message in its surrounding conversation.

Messages And Replies

•
Everyday messaging - Users can send and reply in activity chats or direct messages, while authors can edit their own messages. Activity-chat authors and space owners can remove messages.
•
Rich expression - Lightweight formatting supports lists, links, quotes, emphasis, and code while keeping messages readable as plain text.
•
Mentions - Typing @ opens participant suggestions, and selected mentions remain connected to the right person if their display name changes.
•
Connected references - Users can find accessible goals with /goal and choose activities with #, then open the referenced work from sent messages.
•
Activity drafts - Unsent text stays with each activity while users move around during the current app session, then clears after sending.
•
Live conversation - New messages, edits, deletions, reactions, typing activity, and read state update without refreshing the open activity.
•
Failed-send recovery - Unsent messages remain in the feed with Message not sent and Retry, preserving their text, replies, and attachments.
•
Readable copying - Copying a message keeps readable names and references, while selecting part of a plain message copies just that selection.
•
Sending limits - Oversized drafts cannot be sent, and rapid message bursts show a cooldown warning.

Direct Messages

•
Private conversations - The Messages page brings one-to-one and group conversations, participants, topics, messages, and composing into one workspace.
•
Reusable one-to-one chats - Starting another conversation with the same person returns to the existing private history instead of creating a duplicate.
•
Group controls - Participants can select several eligible people to add, rename a group, leave it, and see a notice when someone joins.
•
Conversation topics - Private conversations start with a general discussion and can contain additional topics for separate strands of work.
•
Older private history - Scrolling upward loads earlier messages while keeping the current conversation in view.
•
Personal organization - Users can favorite, mute, or mark conversations as read, including marking all direct messages as read at once.
•
One-to-one boundaries - Users can block or unblock the other person in a one-to-one conversation.
•
Live private updates - Open conversations receive messages, reactions, presence, and read updates live, while other conversations refresh their unread summaries.

Files, Links, And Emoji

•
Flexible attachments - Users can add images, videos, documents, project files, and ZIP archives from the picker or supported paste-and-drop flows.
•
Private attachments - Files sent through direct messages remain private to that conversation.
•
Upload clarity - Draft previews, per-file progress, and clear failure states help users prepare up to 20 attachments in one message.
•
Readable previews - Images use compact galleries, videos can play inline, and supported documents offer previews and download actions.
•
Conversation galleries - Opening an image lets users browse older and newer media from the conversation without returning to each message.
•
Actions beside images - Users can react or reply from the image viewer, and save activity-chat messages to View Later.
•
Image reuse - Images offer copy and download actions directly from the conversation.
•
Documents and saved items - Users can drop stored Documents into activity chat or turn an eligible View Later item into a shareable link.
•
Expandable links - Links start compact and expand to show available descriptions, images, and author credit without leaving the conversation.
•
Connected previews - Visual Space links can show accessible articles, documents, and activity details, while unavailable previews keep a usable destination link.
•
Emoji choices - Users can add standard emoji, use familiar emoticon shortcuts, and use a space's custom emoji where available.
•
Custom emoji - Space owners and chat managers can add, crop, name, and remove up to 50 custom emoji for their community.

Reactions, Awards, And People

•
Message reactions - Users can add or remove emoji reactions, see counts, and open the list of people behind a reaction.
•
Awards - Activity-chat messages can receive Awards that highlight valuable contributions and show who gave them.
•
Participant panels - Chat panels show contributors, relevant space roles, profiles, and live online status for the current area or private conversation.
•
Favorite people - Users can favorite participants within a space and find them before other contributors in its chat panels.
•
Conversation shortcuts - Users can start a direct message from a chat participant or invite an eligible person to the current space.
•
Space invitations - Direct messages show space invitations as clear cards that let recipients visit or join the space.

From Chat To Shared Work

•
Publish a message - Space owners and members who can create posts can turn an activity-chat message into an article without starting over.
•
Prepared article drafts - The editor carries over the message, original author credit, visual attachments, and links for review before publication.
•
Long-form handoff - Eligible users can move an oversized draft into the article editor without losing the original chat draft.
•
Private stays private - Direct-message content does not offer the publish-as-article action.
•
Meeting access - Activity and direct-message conversations can start or reopen a meeting when meetings are available.
