Choose an export according to what the next person needs: an editable Pixels project, a finished image, or a file for another editor. The extension alone does not guarantee that every layer feature remains editable.

Choose an export according to what the next person needs: an editable Pixels project, a finished image, or a file for another editor. The extension alone does not guarantee that every layer feature remains editable.

Keep An Editable Master

Use More > Save as Layered Project to download a .vspixels file. This keeps Pixels layers, masks, smart-object sources, adjustments, and animation for later editing. Use More > Open to reopen a saved project.

A shared document also remains editable when saved in its space. A local project download is useful as a separate copy, especially before flattening, rasterizing, or exchanging files with another editor.

Import Artwork

More > Import accepts supported PNG, JPEG, WebP, PSD, SVG, and Pixels project files. Importing a file opens a local editing session. It does not automatically replace or create a shared space document.

To add content to the document already open, use Place instead. Supported SVG artwork can become editable layers, while an image can be placed as a layer. In the browser, accepted dropped images can be added as smart objects with retained source content.

Document dimensions must stay within 5000 Γ— 5000 pixels. Raster file imports are limited to 30 MiB. Unsupported or malformed files show an error; choosing a different extension for the same bytes does not convert the file.

Export For The Next Use

Open More > Export As and choose the format for your destination.

•
PNG suits finished artwork that needs transparency and crisp edges.
•
JPEG suits an ordinary flattened image when transparency is not required.
•
WebP provides another flattened-image format for compatible destinations.
•
SVG can retain supported vector artwork. Mixed artwork can be represented by an embedded image instead of editable vector parts.
•
PSD exchanges supported raster layers and a combined preview. It is not a full translation of every Pixels feature.
•
Layered Project retains the Pixels editing structure for reopening in Pixels.

PSD export keeps the rendered result of adjustments in the combined preview, while some organizational and adjustment rows do not become equivalent live effects in the receiving editor. Check both the appearance and the layers after opening a PSD elsewhere.

Exports use the active artwork. The image formats do not export the full animation. Save the layered project to preserve its frames and playback settings.

Change Size Deliberately

More > Image > Pixels Resize changes image dimensions using resampling. Nearest-neighbour is the default and is useful for keeping pixel-art edges crisp. An enlarged pixel image and a higher-detail drawing are not the same thing.

Pixels Extend changes the document boundary around an anchor without resampling the image. Use it to make room around an existing drawing. Trim removes unused space around visible content; Reveal All can expand the document to show outlying artwork.

Common Questions

Which format should I keep if I am unsure?

Keep a .vspixels master, then export the image or exchange file you need. That preserves a route back to the full Pixels project.

Can I export all layers or an animated GIF at once?

Those are not available export workflows. Choose a supported image format for the active artwork, or the layered-project format for the complete editable document.

Why did opening a download not put it in Documents?

A local import is a local session. See Saving And Working Together for the difference between local work and shared documents.
