Completed Goals keeps finished work available as a record of progress after it no longer needs space on the active board. It is the second stage of completion: first a goal reaches a `Done` category, then a manager may clear that column into history without deleting the goal or its article.

Completed Goals keeps finished work available as a record of progress after it no longer needs space on the active board. It is the second stage of completion: first a goal reaches a Done category, then a manager may clear that column into history without deleting the goal or its article.

Done, Cleared, And Deleted Are Different

These actions may all remove a goal from someone's immediate attention, but they have very different results:

Change the status to Done - The goal receives its completion time and remains visible in its Done-category column on the active board. Permitted goal editors can still work with it there.
Clear Done - Every active goal in one selected Done-category column moves off the board and into Done Goals history. Its reference, article, activity context, and participation record remain available.
Delete the goal - The goal itself is removed through the goal's deletion flow. Clearing is not a softer-looking name for deletion and does not produce the same result.

This distinction lets a community finish work visibly, leave it on the board for a review period, and archive it only when the team is ready. A goal does not enter Completed Goals merely because its status changes to Done.

A goal can remain visible in the active Done column while View Done leads to the separately cleared history.

Clear A Column With Care

Only the space owner or a member with goal-management access can use Clear Done. The command appears for columns whose category is Done, even when the community has given the column a different name such as Approved or Shipped.

Clearing affects the whole selected column in the current Goals area. Search and board filters do not narrow the action to the cards currently visible. If a filtered view shows two finished goals while the column contains ten, Clear Done clears all ten goals that belong to that column and area.

Before clearing, it is worth checking:

that the selected column really represents work the community has finished reviewing;
that goals which still need changes have been moved to an active category;
that the current space, subspace, or activity is the intended scope;
that everyone who relies on the active board understands the finished cards will move to history.

The column remains part of the workflow after it is cleared. Only its current goals move. New goals can later enter the same Done-category column and stay on the board until a manager clears it again.

There is an important current limit: cleared goals cannot be returned to the board in this release. Treat Clear Done as lasting board housekeeping, not as a temporary way to hide cards. For the connected completion and review journey, follow Finish And Review Goals.

Review The Completed History

Members can open Done Goals from the View Done link on a Done-category column or from the Goals activity options. The history follows the Goals area being viewed, so an activity view stays focused on completed work from that activity while a wider space view provides its wider scope. Private-area access continues to apply.

Completed goals appear newest first, based on when each goal entered a Done category. The ungrouped view is useful for scanning recent results as one continuous list. The Done Goals options can instead organize the loaded history by:

day, with the full completion date for each group;
month, for a broader view of recent progress;
year, for a long-running community record.

Each time group shows how many goals were completed in that period and may highlight leading participants from those goals. Grouping changes the presentation, not the goals, their order within the history, or their completion state.

The history loads in pages as the reader moves through it. A group near a page boundary may gain more goals when an older page loads, so its displayed total reflects the completed goals loaded into the view at that moment.

Read-Only Planning, Full Goal Context

Done Goals is a read-only planning history. Its rows do not provide the board and backlog actions used to change status, responsibility, tags, order, or placement. This protects the completed record from being rearranged as if it were still active work.

Selecting a completed row still opens the goal's article beside the history. Members can revisit the original objective, explanation, discussion, and other context without losing their place in the list. Access to that article and its available participation actions continues to follow the member's normal permissions.

The history is also area-aware. A signed-in member can review only completed goals available through the space, subspace, or activity they can access. Moving from one Goals area to another changes which completed record is in scope; it does not create a separate copy of a goal.

When To Keep Work On The Board

Clearing is most useful when a Done column has already served its active purpose. Keep completed work on the board a little longer when members still need to verify results, collect final context, or use the cards during a review.

Clear the column when the finished cards are making current work harder to see and the community is comfortable treating them as a historical record. This rhythm preserves a useful moment of visible completion without allowing old work to crowd the planning surface indefinitely.

Common Questions

Does moving a goal to Done remove it from the board?

No. It stays in its Done-category column until a space owner or goal manager clears that column.

Does Clear Done delete the goal or its article?

No. The goal moves to Done Goals history, and its article context remains available to permitted readers.

Will Clear Done affect only filtered cards I can see?

No. It clears every active goal in the selected Done-category column for the current Goals area, including goals hidden by search or filters.

Can I clear just one completed goal?

Not with Clear Done. The action works on a whole Done-category column. Move any goal that should remain active out of that column before clearing it.

Can a cleared goal return to the board?

No, not in the current release. Review the column before clearing because the history does not provide a restore action.

Why can I open a completed goal but not move or edit it from the history?

Done Goals is a read-only planning surface. Opening the row lets you revisit its article, while workflow changes and board placement remain unavailable from the completed history.

What date does the history use?

It uses the goal's recorded completion time. Current goals receive that time when they enter a Done category; older goals without one appear under Earlier.

Who can view completed goals?

Signed-in members can review completed goals within the spaces and private areas they are allowed to access. Only space owners and goal managers can clear a Done column.
