Visual Space manual, Live Apps, Build And Export A Poly Scene

You will build a small local 3D scene, organize and inspect it, test one reversible edit, and download the supported result as a `.gltf` file. The finished export can carry visible Poly primitives, groups, transforms, and basic materials, but **it is not a saved Poly project** and cannot preserve the whole editing session.

Build a small scene, confirm that it saves, and export a supported 3D file. A plane and two contrasting shapes are enough to learn the workflow without getting lost in detail.

Create the Scene Where It Belongs

You need access to the space area and Poly, Designer Pack, or Engineer Pack access to create and edit. A larger screen makes the first scene easier to arrange.

•
Open Poly - Choose Poly from Apps in the intended space area. Use its explorer to choose the folder that should contain the work.
•
Create a scene - Choose New and wait for the editor to open. A new scene contains no authored objects; the grid and axes are guides.
•
Check readiness - Let opening and initial saving finish before adding content. If the editor is read only or reports a connection problem, resolve that first.

The file is a saved Poly document, not a temporary local draft. Creating it does not publish an article.

Arrange a Simple Composition

•
Place a plane - Choose the Plane creation tool, review the creation settings, and place it in the viewport. Scale it to form a base for the scene.
•
Add a cube - Create a Cube and use Move to position it over the plane. Rotate or scale it to give the composition a clear main shape. Inspector should describe the same object selected in Scene.
•
Add a companion - Place a Sphere, Torus, or Teapot beside the cube. Keep the forms separated enough to read their silhouettes.
•
Organize the pieces - Select related objects and group them. Expand the group to confirm that its parts remain individually accessible.

Use axis constraints, snapping, or numeric transform values when placement needs to be exact. Undo a poor move before adding the next change; the scene is easier to reason about when you correct one decision at a time.

Give the Forms Different Surfaces

•
Choose a material - Select the main shape and open Materials. Adjust its appearance, then give the companion a contrasting surface.
•
Compare the result - Switch to Material view and inspect both forms. A rough surface and a smoother one often make the difference easier to see than a small color change alone.
•
Check the environment - Open Inspector's Scene tab if the lighting or background makes the objects difficult to read. These controls affect the scene rather than only the selected object.

This finished still life illustrates how a few contrasting objects can form a clear composition.

Frame and Save the Result

•
Fit the scene - Use Camera controls to bring the visible objects into frame. Orbit until their placement is easy to understand, then make small pan or zoom adjustments.
•
Inspect the shape - Compare Solid with Material, then try Rendered Preview for a cleaner view. Check from another angle before settling on the presentation view.
•
Wait for Saved - Resolve any pending upload or save message. The saved scene is the editable project you will return to later.

Export a File for Another Tool

•
Open Export scene - Choose GLB for a compact one-file handoff, or glTF for readable JSON with embedded resources.
•
Choose the scope - Use Whole scene for this complete composition. For a partial handoff, select the required objects first and use Selected objects.
•
Choose the geometry - Keep Export evaluated modifiers when you want the current visible shape. Use Export base mesh only only when the receiver needs the starting geometry.
•
Review included content - Leave the supported materials and textures enabled when appearance matters. Review lights, cameras, and animation according to the destination's needs.
•
Read the report - After downloading, check the included content and any omissions. Open the file in the destination application and verify placement and surfaces.

The exported file and the saved scene serve different purposes. Keep the Poly document for continued editing, and use the export for interchange. The Importing and Exporting overview explains features that may not transfer intact.

Continue the Scene

Reopen the document through Poly's explorer to continue working. If you want to reshape the cube, follow Shape and Sculpt a Model; for a painted surface, use Texture and Paint a Model.
