Use this walkthrough when a Chat conversation needs a lasting link back to a goal. You will choose the goal from the reference picker, send it as part of a message, and confirm that the posted reference opens the intended work. A goal reference is more than typed text. Selecting a result from the picker turns the visible label into a durable link that follows the goal when its space key or location changes.

Bring a goal into a Chat conversation by selecting a reference that opens the intended work. The picker helps distinguish goals with similar titles or identical short labels in different spaces.

You need access to send messages in the conversation, and you must have joined the space that owns the goal. A shared reference does not give recipients access to a private area.

Find The Goal

Open the message field - Put the cursor where the reference belongs. Begin the shortcut at the start of the message or after a space.

Choose a shortcut - Type /goal to start with joined spaces, /VS- to use a known uppercase key, or /VS-42 for a known goal number. Replace VS and 42 with the actual key and number.

Select the space - The general /goal command shows spaces first. A keyed shortcut skips this stage when only one joined space matches; if several use the key, choose by name and handle.

Narrow the choice - Continue with a title or keyword when browsing goals. The general form also accepts text such as /goal onboarding before the space choice.

Insert the reference - Select the goal you mean. Up and Down Arrow change the highlight, Enter or Tab accept it, and Escape closes the picker.


Check the space, goal label, and title before inserting the reference.

While the picker is open, Enter confirms the highlighted choice instead of sending the message. At the space stage it advances to goals; at the goal stage it inserts the reference. Finish your sentence after insertion, then send normally.

Check The Shared Result

Recognize the inserted reference - The shortcut becomes the goal's visible label. Leaving /VS-42 as unselected text does not create the same lasting reference.

Send useful context - Explain why you are sharing the goal or what response you need.
•
Open the posted reference - Confirm the title and owning area match the work you intended, especially when several spaces use the same key.

A selected reference follows later key changes and moves. You do not need to resend it just because the visible label changes.

When The Goal Does Not Appear

Keyed shortcuts require uppercase letters: use /VS-42, not /vs-42. Use /goal when the space has no key or you do not know it.

Check that you have joined the owning space and still have access to the goal's area. If the goal has moved, choose its current space or open an existing selected reference rather than relying on an old plain-text label.

Recipients who cannot access the goal, or whose referenced goal has been deleted, see Goal unavailable. The message does not expose its former title or location. Share work in an area the intended collaborators can access rather than treating the reference as an invitation.
