Goals give communities a shared place to turn ideas into visible work. Plans stay close to the conversations, documents, and people already gathered in a space.
Plan Work Together
•
Goals workspace - Users can plan at the space, subspace, or activity level, so each board stays focused on the work that belongs there.
•
Create where it belongs - Goal managers with coordinator access can add a goal to a chosen column, backlog position, or the space's starting column.
•
Rich goal details - Every goal opens as a full article for context, discussion, and supporting content beyond the compact card title.
•
Side-by-side details - Opening a goal keeps the board, filters, search, and scroll position in place beside its article.
•
Direct navigation - Users can open a goal from a shared link, continue to its full article, and return to the board that owns it.
Shape The Workflow
•
Custom columns - Space owners and goal managers can create and name columns around the way their community works.
•
Familiar categories - Every column belongs to To Do, In Progress, or Done, even when the community gives it a custom name.
•
Starting column - Managers can choose where goals land when someone creates one from the main Goal action.
•
Flexible movement - Goal editors can move work between columns or the backlog by dragging on desktop or choosing a status from a menu.
•
Deliberate ordering - Managers can arrange columns and place goals at specific positions, with accepted order preserved after refresh.
•
Safe column removal - Removing a column moves its goals to another chosen column instead of losing the work.
•
Filtered board safety - Reordering pauses while search or filters show only part of the board, preventing accidental changes to hidden work.
Organize The Work
•
People and role assignees - Goals can belong to one participating person, a space role, or remain unassigned.
•
Visible responsibility - Cards, backlog rows, and goal details show who is responsible without opening another screen.
•
Color tags - Users can mark goals with familiar priority colors, while managers can create named colors that fit their space.
•
Combined filters - Assignee and color filters work together across both the board and backlog, including unassigned and untagged goals.
•
Goal search - Users can narrow the current goals area by reference, title, keywords, or article content.
•
Activity context - Colored activity labels show where goals belong and open the matching activity board.
•
Move between activities - Reporters and goal managers can move a goal to another accessible, published activity in the same space.
Keep A Backlog
•
Plan without clutter - Moving a goal to the backlog keeps its article, status, reference, assignee, and color tag intact.
•
Quick backlog editing - Permitted users can rename goals and update their prepared status, assignee, or color without opening the full article.
•
Ordered backlog - Managers can arrange loaded backlog goals, and the order stays consistent as more results appear.
•
Return to active work - A backlog goal can move directly into a chosen column or a precise visible position on the board.
•
Create in place - Managers can add new goals between existing backlog rows instead of creating first and rearranging later.
Review Completed Goals
•
Clear finished work - Space owners and goal managers can clear a Done column without deleting its goals or their articles.
•
Done Goals history - Signed-in members can review cleared work in a read-only list ordered from newest to oldest.
•
Useful time groups - Completed goals can be grouped by day, month, or year, with totals and leading contributors for each period.
•
Open full context - A cleared goal still opens beside the history, so members can revisit its article without leaving the list.
•
Archive boundary - Cleared goals cannot return to the active board in this release.
Reference And Share Goals
•
Readable references - Each goal receives a lasting number and a compact label such as VS-42 across cards, backlog rows, and article details.
•
Space goal keys - Space managers can review, change, or remove the suggested uppercase key without disabling goals.
•
Chat goal picker - Typing a shortcut such as /VS- or the /goal command helps users find accessible goals and insert the intended one.
•
Duplicate-key guidance - When joined spaces share a key, the picker asks users to choose the space before choosing a goal.
•
Durable shared references - Goal links keep pointing to the same goal after its space key changes or the goal moves.
•
Private fallback - Deleted or inaccessible references become a non-clickable Goal unavailable label without exposing their former details.
Participation And Access
•
Clear management controls - Space owners and goal managers control columns, creation, assignments, space-wide tags, and other board settings.
•
Reporter access - Goal reporters can continue editing the goals they introduced without gaining control over the whole board.
•
Assignee access - Assigned people and current members of an assigned role can edit and move that goal, but cannot change wider board settings.
•
Private-area protection - Boards, backlogs, completed history, details, search, and reference lookup follow the current area's membership rules.
•
Community engagement - Signed-in users can save goals to View Later. Where permitted, they can also react, award, comment, or feature goals in Expo.
•
Archived activities - Members can still review existing goals in an archived activity, but cannot create new ones there.
Comfortable On Every Screen
•
Wide board navigation - Desktop headers and cards move together, with a compact preview showing which part of a wide workflow is visible.
•
Mobile planning - Narrow screens stack columns and backlog into one vertical workspace, with status menus and long-press movement where available.
•
Large-board performance - Long columns and backlogs concentrate rendering around visible goals while still showing accurate overall totals.
•
Immediate updates - Renames, new backlog goals, deletions, and other accepted edits appear across open Goals views without a manual refresh.
